On 20 June 2025, the Minister of Production, Foreign Trade, Investment and Fisheries of Ecuador, Luis Alberto Jaramillo, met with representatives of Temu, a multi-flagged electric powerer platform, to discuss in depth investment and cooperation in the field of electronic commerce.

According to Derecho Diario, the director of Temu ‘ s enterprise development, Choi Hantin, indicated at the meeting that the company plans to establish an operating base in Ecuador and to participate actively in the development of the national logistics infrastructure, while assisting the Government in combating illegal trade and enhancing the traceability of electronic transactions.
Temu, as a multi-flagged, cross-border electrician platform, has rapidly rolled the globe with low-price strategies and diversified commodities. During the meeting, Cai Han Tin stressed Temu’s intention to optimize Ecuador’s logistics network by investing in the construction of smart warehouses and sorting centres, thereby reducing distribution time and operating costs.

In addition, Temu plans to work with local enterprises to explore a “semi-hosting model”, operated by local companies on behalf of Temu, to accelerate integration into Ecuador’s commercial ecology. Haramillo welcomed this and noted that attracting the establishment of physical operations of international electric power platforms in Eritrea was an important step for the Government to drive the digital transformation. Previously, on 3 June, he had indicated that similar models had been successfully implemented in other countries, with which Ecuador wished to improve logistics efficiency and market competitiveness.
The fight against illegal trade and the enhancement of the traceability of transactions were another focus of the current talks. The Government of Ecuador has recently implemented a “4*4 Express” tariff policy for cross-border powerer platforms such as Temu to regulate imports and curb illegal trade. Temu is committed to helping Governments track commodity sources and reduce the flow of counterfeit and false products through block chain technology and data analysis to enhance the same name of the transaction.

This cooperation is of great importance to the Ecuadorian economy, and Temu ‘ s logistics investment is expected to create jobs and stimulate the digital transformation of SMEs, especially in the major cities of Guayaquil and Quito. Locals have expressed their expectations of low-priced goods and potential investments in Temu, but are concerned that tariff policies may push up prices. At the same time, the entry of Temu will intensify competition with the Amazon, Mercado Libre and contribute to the accelerated ecological upgrading of local electric operators.
Temu ‘ s cooperation with Ecuador is not only an extension of its global strategy, but also a new paradigm for the Latin American electricity market. Temu has demonstrated the potential for enabling the local economy through investment in logistics and anti-illegal trade initiatives.
