Subscription services are an essential part of the Apple Service, and developers have a variety of ways to attract clients to long-term use and to receive higher returns, but no user prefers a one-time advance for a full year of subscriptions, especially if they will continue after a few months of uncertainty. Apple seems to have taken this into account by introducing a new App Store subscription model.

Under the new model, users do not have to choose between relatively expensive monthly packages and discount annual fees, but pay on a monthly basis at a preferential price for annual fees, but the contractual period is 12 months, and the user must pay on time within the contractual period. For example, services that were originally paid for at $9.99 per month/$90 per annum can now be paid in 12 instalments at $7.5 per month. No lump-sum payment is required, and the discount is the same as the annual fee. Apple has also increased the transparency of this new type of subscription service, with users having ready access to the number of payments completed and the remaining subscription costs. Users can cancel the 12-month subscription at any time to ensure that no subsequent costs are incurred, and apples send reminders and push notifications before renewal.

Although subscriptions could be cancelled at any time, the cost of follow-up would need to continue to be covered during the contract period. With the cancellation of the subscriptions in the sixth or tenth month, the remaining six or two months would still have to be paid by the user. It sounds like a trap, but this new pattern of subscription actually strikes the right balance between the flexibility of monthly instalments and a fixed annual fee for developers. Apples do not indicate what happens when a user tries to stop paying for a transaction, but this is likely to apply to all common rules for internal purchases. The monthly instalments will be deducted from the apple account, which will then be deducted from the user’s payment modality. If the transaction cannot be completed, the user ‘ s access to the account is likely to be restricted. Unpaid balances may result in applications being locked and the ability to download new applications being completely limited.

Developer can now test new subscriptions in App Store Connect and Xcode, which will be officially online next month for iOS 26.4 and equivalent platform versions. However, the model has not yet been introduced in the United States and Singapore, nor has the official timetable been given when these two markets will be covered.
