The latest post by Nekorusukii, a user of platform X, states that Microsoft appears in the latest updates published by Windows 11, and that an updated computer could cause a SSD malfunction in processing large file transfers. When the user indicated that he had updated Cyberpunk 2077 on Windows 11 24H2 (updated by KB506378), it discovered that the SSD in which the game was located had disappeared from the system.
An investigation revealed a potential problem that appeared to occur when large file transfers were made on specific storage devices, especially when the transfer exceeded 50 GB and disk occupancy was above 60 per cent. In the above cases, SDS may disappear from the system. The solution is simple, and SSD can read again after restart. However, once the large file transfer is repeated, the problem is repeated.
Previously, there had been reports of problems arising from the SSD Cache Reader, in particular the non-DRAM Cache Model with a Philison NAND control chip. However, the test results indicate that the problem is not limited to such drives. In order to determine the scope, Nekorusukii carried out a series of tests, including copying the Steam file from Cyberpunk 2077 to a new hard disk, preparing a compressed document, and then copying the unpressure file to the target storage device.
Of the 21 SSDs tested, 12 were unreadable, including the pirate ship Force MP600, the SSD with the Phison PS5012-E12 control chip, the Quaker EXCERIA PLS G4, the Fixwater FN955, the InnoGrit control chip SSD, the Maxio SSD, the Quaker M.2, the Moody M.2 NVMe 3D, but only the Western data SA510 2TB could not be restored after its reactivation.
Nekorusukii listed the full test results and explained that the SSDs had only been tested on his own system, and therefore the results may not be sufficient to fully demonstrate the performance of solid-state hard drives in real-time environments. Moreover, he does not assert that the KB506378 update of Windows 11 24H2 or the KB5062660 update previously issued was the direct cause of the problem. However, according to the Japanese medium NichePCGamer further confirmed that at least eight users on platform X had similar problems on their hard drives.
According to a user who used the FlashExtreme Pro M.2 NVME 3D SSD, he was not able to read the hard drive after he had installed the 50G update of Decline: Star Dome Railway. Although the problem had been solved through re-launching, the user ‘ s feedback had already encountered several such problems in August. It is worth mentioning that the problem did not arise after the KB5062660 update was deleted.
As things stand, the problem does not seem to be widespread. While waiting for the confirmation of this BUG by Microsoft and SSD manufacturers, it would be advisable for users to be cautious, especially when large continuous file transfers are made on the operation of the latest Windows 11 KB506378 updated system.
